Direct Support Staff

Direct Support Staff provide mentoring and individualized support to individuals receiving Supported Living Services.  This support may be provided in an individual’s home, community, place of work or in recreational environments.  It is critical that a Direct Support Staff understand, model, maintain the philosophies, values and goals of supported living as it relates to each individual and his/her lifestyle. Direct Support Staff serve individuals through many roles.  In any given day, you could participate or assist with the following

  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Laughing and talking about life
  • Cleaning and maintaining a household
  • Meal planning, preparation, cooking
  • Shopping and errands
  • Personal care support
  • Medical appointments, medication
  • Recording events and learning
  • Researching, planning, participating in community membership

Community Support Facilitator

The Community Support Facilitator (CSF) is responsible for the coordination of supported living services of individuals as assigned by NorthStar. Schedules and job assignments for Direct Support Staff/Personal Attendants, roommates, and other paid staff are assigned by the CSF. The CSF, in coordination with the Director, will supervise, train, monitor and evaluate all paid support staff.  It is critical that the CSF understand, model, maintain and be able to articulate the philosophies, values and goals of supported living as it relates to each individual and his/her lifestyle.  The CSF will be part of a team that includes individuals receiving services, service professionals, family members and others identified in the Service Plan/Individual Program Plan (IPP).
